Being a verbose windbag has its advantages. After years of working with yarn and making mistake after mistake just because I didn’t know any better, an epiphany came around the time I hired on at Alpacas of America, shortly after I’d learned to spin yarn from fiber. Learning more of the science behind why fibers behave the way they do, I’ve made it my mission to spare people from such unfortunate mishaps as I’ve had. These are some articles I’ve written about fiber and yarn. I hope they help you.
Fiber Properties : basic information on what defines each type of fiber and what different types of fibers do best
They Shear Alpacas, Don’t They? : How to make alpaca yarns put their best hoof forward. This information is also useful for any camelid fiber, as well as angora, cashmere, wool, cotton—you name it.
